Make a Paper Dove
Many of you will remember making peace doves in middle school or high school when you studied WW2 and the bombing of Hiroshima. You may have read the story about a little girl named Sadako, who was a victim of the bombing at Hiroshima. She set out to make 1000 cranes (this pattern is the same as the dove) as she was dying from leukemia as a result of the radiation poisoning from the bomb. This is one reason that the origami crane/dove is a symbol of peace. I know many people are intimidated by origami, but it's not as hard as you think as long as you take your time. This week we’re going to be doing 2 activities that use paper folding. One of them is today’s activity – making a paper dove. We’re going to use our paper dove for another project later in the week. So make sure you keep it.
Supplies:
White Copy Paper – not cardstock or construction paper
