Sew or Glue a Felt Star
Supplies
a. White or Gold/Yellow Felt or White or Gold/Yellow cardstock – consider purchasing stiffened felt if you are gluing instead of sewing
b. Star Stencil or search for a star template online & print it out. Cut it out and use as your template.
c. Sewing machine or Glue
d. Batting to stuff your star – if you’re using felt. If you don’t have any batting, use cotton puffs or even tissue paper
e. Fabric paint pens, sequins, gems, etc. to decorate the star. Markers, if you’re using cardstock.
f. Optional: ribbon to hang the star
Directions
a. Find a star stencil or template online & use it as a pattern. Trace the star onto your felt or cardstock. Remember that if you’re sewing, you’ll need extra material around your star to sew your pieces together.
b. Cut 2 stars.
c. If sewing, sew around the star shape. Leave a section unsewn so that you can put stuffing inside the star. If you’re going to hang the star, make sure you sew a looped ribbon inside the star.
Option 1: If using soft felt, turn the star inside out & stuff it. Slip stitch the opening shut.
Option 2: For a rustic star (if you’re using stiffened felt), don’t turn it inside out. Stuff it & then finish sewing the opening shut.
Option 3: You don’t need a sewing machine to complete this project and hand sew the star pieces together.
d. If using cardstock, glue the 2 pieces together. If you’re hanging the star, make sure you glue a ribbon loop inside the 2 pieces.
e. Once you’ve stitched or glued the stars together, decorate the star using fabric paint pens, markers, sequins, gems, etc.
