Day 34
Splendor
1
Corinthians 15:40 (NIV)
There are also heavenly bodies and there
are earthly bodies; but the splendor
of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another.
Splendor...great
brightness or luster, brilliance, candor, radiance, illumination. I find it interesting that the word
"candor" is a synonym for splendor.
We usually use the word candor to refer to an honest or sincere
expression or freedom from prejudice or malice.
However, candor in a literary sense is defined as brightness or
brilliance. An obsolete definition of
candor is unstained purity. So let's see
what the scriptures have to say about this verse.
Paul
is definitely stating that our resurrected bodies will shine
brighter than our earthly bodies. The
splendor of our earthly bodies is to live on earth, to work, to provide for our
families, and to do the work that God has commanded to further his kingdom. But the splendor of our heavenly bodies will shine
with brightness. We will be free from
any defect and will radiate brightness.
Today,
go outside and enjoy the splendor of the earth.
Think about how it will be to enter into the splendor and brilliance of
heaven.
