Day 20
Kingdom
1
Corinthians 15:24 (NIV)
Then (Greek: eita meaning after this)
the end (Greek: telos) will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion,
authority and power.
In verse 23, we are
told that once the Christ comes again, all believers who have died will enter
the kingdom of heaven. Today's verse
continues telling what will happen by starting with the word "then"
meaning "after this" that after Christ comes & the dead have been
resurrected, the end will come. The
meaning of the end, "telos" in
the Greek, has a sense of completion or fulfillment. However, in this verse, it is more a
beginning than an end. It is the beginning
of God disclosing the world as he intended it to be. And the last part of this verse tells us the
sequence of how this will be accomplished.
Christ will first bring an end to all earthly power, and in doing so,
will restore God's reign that existed before man's original sin was
committed. (Remember our discussion of
Adam.) Once this is completed, the world
will be as God created it.
Today, reflect upon and pray "The Lord's
Prayer." Be especially mindful of
the following phrases:
- "Thy Kingdom come..." Pray that God's kingdom will come on His terms, not our terms.
- "For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever." Acknowledge that God is number one over all, and that His son, Jesus Christ, was the first resurrected from the dead. Pray that you will freely give everything that is yours to God, for what is ours is fleeting.
