Corinthians 15:3
Scriptures
For what I received I passed on to you
as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures.
Yesterday's
word was "gospel." Paul
reminds us of the gospel that he has preached to us and that by this gospel, we
are saved. In today's verse, he
continues to talk about the gospel -- the Scriptures. The gospel, the Scriptures, is not an
afterthought. It is of prime
importance. It is the vehicle that tells
us that Christ died for our sins. It
tells us who Jesus is. He is Christ, the
Son of God, the Messiah. Substitute
atonement is at the heart of the gospel.
It helps us to understand the great love that God has for us. Jesus became our substitute. He himself bore our sins in
his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness.
By his wounds you have been healed. 1
Peter 2:24
Today
listen to "Jesus Messiah" by Chris Tomlin and focus on the words from
1 Peter 2:24 that are sung in this song.
Take out your Bible. Leaf through
it. Find those pages that you have
written special notes on to remind you of something that you found
profound. Try to remember why that
particular Scripture was important to you and how it reminds you that Christ
died for your sins.
Prayer: Loving Father, You allowed Your Son, Jesus Christ, to
take every one of our sins with Him to the cross so that we might be saved; help
us to remember the importance of passing on Your Word to others who may not
believe in You, so that they may hear the Good News of your saving grace,
through our risen Savior, Jesus Christ.
Amen.
