Joy - Day 4 - Faith-Based Advent Activity

Craft a Small Joyful Wreath

Simple Wreath:

This simple wreath is inspired by a craft that you’ve probably done with your children before – a paper plate wreath.  If you don’t have a paper plate, use a piece of cardstock.

Directions for a Paper Plate or Cardstock Wreath:

·      If you’re using cardstock, use a medium sized plate (no more than the width of your cardstock) and trace a circle onto the cardstock.  Cut the circle out.

·      Use a circle item, like a wide mouth Mason jar lid, to draw another circle in the middle of the big circle.  Carefully cut the middle circle out.  Be careful to leave middle circle intact so that you can use it to make a bow.

·      Take tissue paper & cut many small rectangular pieces.  Randomly glue these pieces onto the “wreath” part of the paper plate/cardstock.  Use a hole punch and red cardstock or construction paper to make small holes.  Glue the small red holes randomly around the wreath.

·      Draw a bow on the extra paper plate/cardstock that you saved from the middle of the wreath.  Remember to go to www.thenounproject.com for inspiration on how to draw a bow.  Color the bow and glue it to the bottom of the wreath.

·        Out of white cardstock/construction paper, cut out a “banner” (this can be as simple as a rectangle or a rectangle with a round top) and write “Joy to the World” on it.  Glue it across the top of the wreath.

Folded Paper (Origami) Wreath & Bow (medium difficulty):

Here are 2 links to websites with directions on how to make a paper folded wreath and bow.  There’s a little bit of a learning curve on the wreath, but if you enjoy origami, it’s doable.  The bow is also a little challenging.  But, again, if you’ve done origami before, it’s doable.  Make sure that you use origami paper or colored copy paper.  Cardstock & construction paper is to heavy.  Once you’ve made the wreath & bow, add a “Joy to the World” banner to the wreath.
