The beginning of Lent (March 2nd) is less than a month away -- not too soon to be thinking about what spiritual discipline you are going to observe during this year's season of Lent.
I want to challenge you to join me on a daily walk through Lent. This year I will be focusing on scripture verses that speak about praying, fasting, and giving. Every day I will be posting a scripture on my Facebook page -- An Offering of Praise: Worship Inspiration for Everyone. I will be doodling a drawing inspired by the scripture verse. On the Sundays of Lent, I encourage you to use your pastor's sermon for inspiration or to use the Lenten symbols that I will be posting each Sunday. There will also be scripture verses for Holy Week and for Easter. Starting on Ash Wednesday, I will post a blog to start off our journey. Then every Sunday, I will post a blog recapping the week. During Holy Week, there will be special blogs for Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.
Perhaps you're thinking about how you are going to get started and make your walk through Lent special. You can print out or make a calendar and doodle an icon for each day of Lent or write a key word for each day. You can create your own Lenten calendar. I have created a template based on the theme of Lent -- pray, fast, give -- that I will be using. I have also created special templates for each Sunday of Lent, for Holy Week, and for Easter. These templates will be used to make pages for a Lenten flip calendar. On the front, I'll doodle an icon and on the back I'll write out the scripture verse for the day. If this sounds like something you'd like to do for yourself, all you need is a pack of index cards (whatever size you want), a marker to create the frame for your template, and your imagination.
You can also purchase everything you need to make your own Lenten Calendar using my templates and Daily Lenten Guide from my Etsy Shop, "Doodles by Joan." Private message me (either through this blog, my Facebook page, or my Etsy Shop) if you'd like to order everything pre-printed and mailed to you.
Start planning now, check out my Facebook page, and share your plans. And watch for an announcement the middle of next week for additional information and encouragement as you plan your walk.
