Welcome Back to Choir Projects

It's that time of the year!  School is back in session and that means that your music ministries are gearing back up.  Below is a video with some fun ideas to welcome your choir(s) back from their summer break.

1.  Decorative Paper Clips Hint:  make sure you insert or adhere the decoration to the end of the paper clip that you DON'T clip to a page.
2.  Microwave Popcorn Bag Hint:  consider adding a decorative border around your label
3.  Almond Joy Bars Hint:  research the "theology" of Almond Joy Bars and share with your choir

All of these ideas will work with all levels of choir.  Don't just do it for your children & youth.  Remember -- adults like to have fun too!

The Table of Grace

I created this altarscape for a church music workshop with the theme "Come To the Table of Grace" based on the hymn by Barbara Hamm and included in "Worship & Song (#3168)," published by Abingdon Press.

This project was fun and easy to make. It included five glass vase candle holders decoupaged with the words grace, peace, love, joy and Jesus.  I purchased the glass vases at a dollar store (they are 7" pillars).  And I also purchased pillar candles at the dollar store.  Search the internet for graphics that you can use to decoupage onto each candle.  I chose the primary words of each verse plus Jesus as the center candle.  I found graphics that used the English and Hebrew for each word.  The background color was coordinated with the color of the graphic.  The graphic can be printed on regular copier paper.  When decoupaging, do so on the outside of the vase to prevent the candle from scorching or burning the paper.

This altarscape can be used for any Communion worship service.  However, you might want to use it for World Communion Sunday or Advent.  (If you choose to use it for Advent, make an additional vase with hope to exchange with the grace candle.)

Let's Prepare for Lent!

This Wednesday is the start of Lent.  Several years ago at the church that I was serving, we invited our families to invite "Flat Jes...
